Marlborough – John J. “Jack” Lehane, 83, of Marlborough, died on Sunday, September 24, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Jack was born in Malden, MA, the son of the late John J. and Mary E. (Sullivan) Lehane.
He graduated from Medford High School, Class of ’58 and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Jack owned and operated S H & L Autobody.
Jack is survived by his wife of 54 years, Christine M. (Oates) Lehane of Marlborough, three daughters, Jennifer Turieo and her husband Louis of Marlborough, Kathleen Sidell and her husband Craig of NY, Laura Vittoria and her husband Vincent of Natick, his son, John Lehane and his wife Kelly of Southborough, ten grandchildren, Angelina, Sofia, Lena, Jake, Nora, Emma, Jack, Anthony, Isabella, and Vivian, two sisters, Dorothy Harrell and her husband Thomas of IN, Constance Holland and her husband James of Melrose, sister-in-law, Judi Lehane and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three sisters, Mary McKinnon, Patricia Cameron, Irene Bentley and two brothers James Lehane and Lawrence Lehane.
Jack was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, serving as treasurer and president of the Immaculate Conception School Parents Guild as well as volunteering at Our Father’s Table for many years.
One of Jack’s greatest gifts was his storytelling. He had an uncanny knack for spinning tales that could captivate an audience of any age. Whether it was a humorous anecdote or a heartfelt narrative, his stories left everyone in stitches or tears, often both.
Throughout his life, Jack took immense joy in watching his children grow and thrive. He was their steadfast supporter, attending hundreds of games, recitals, cheering competitions, concerts and other events, cheering them on with pride. As his children became parents themselves, Jack took every opportunity to watch his ten grandchildren in their activities, and he loved each of them with all his heart.
Beyond his love for family, Jack had a passion for life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed golfing, dinner with friends, creating beautiful stained-glass pieces and gifting them to friends and family, playing his guitar, piano, and concertina, and reading a good mystery book either on the beach or sitting by the marsh at his house in Maine. A true handyman and “house-boy”, he always loved a good project, whether it was at one of his own houses or at one of his children’s homes.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023 from 4-7 pm at the Short & Rowe Funeral Home, 95 W. Main St., Marlborough, MA.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 30, at 10:00 at Immaculate Conception Church, 11 Prospect St., Marlborough. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery, Southborough.
