HUDSON — Native Sun Wellness, a recreational marijuana dispensary, recently requested at the Sept. 14 Zoning Board of Appeals meeting to be granted a special permit to operate its business between the hours of 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., a two-hour increase from its current official hours.

Native Sun Wellness has been operating its adult use marijuana establishment at 37 Coolidge St. since December 2020, as written in the special permit application. It has operated with the current closing for “almost a full year without incident,” according to the application. Native Sun was looking to make the amendment in order to operate an establishment with the same hours once the company has obtained a license for a medical marijuana dispensary from the Cannabis Control Commission.

The public hearing for Native Sun Wellness was continued to the Oct. 12 meeting. Director of Planning and Community Development Kristina Johnson said that “in order for a marijuana establishment to move forward and obtain their special permit from the Zoning Board of Appeals, they need to have acquired their provisional license from the Cannabis Control Commission.”

The Native Sun Wellness dispensary noted in a Aug. 28 correspondence with Administrative Manager of Planning and Community Development Katie Evangelisti that it would need a continuance.

The CCC approved the issuance of a provisional license authorizing Native Sun to develop but not operate a medical marijuana establishment, according to a May 12, 2022, memo.

The property owner, David Kane, granted his permission to pursue a zoning amendment to a section of the town’s protective zoning bylaws to allow a medical marijuana treatment center to be open these hours in a Feb. 14, 2022, letter.

In addition, Police Chief Richard DiPersio also wrote a letter stating that he did “not object to the request of Native Sun Wellness, located at 37 Coolidge St. In Hudson, to extend store operating hours from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.”
