Shrewsbury – Elizabeth A. (Gearin) “Betty” Finacom of Shrewsbury, formerly of Sutton and Sturbridge, peacefully departed surrounded by her children on December 9, a week prior to her 95th birthday.
Elizabeth was born in Worcester to John and Lillian (Callahan) Gearin and attended Worcester public schools. She graduated from the former High School of Commerce, and later completed the Practical Nurse Training Program at David Hale Fanning Trade School. She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for 22 years at the then Memorial Hospital, now the UMass Memorial Medical Center.
Elizabeth married Edward G. Finacom Jr. on June 18, 1949. Together they had four children, and enjoyed a long and happy marriage, until Edward passed away in 2003.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother John (2015), son, Mark (2018), grandson, John (2015), and her daughter-in-law, Susan (Delonis) Finacom (2023).
Elizabeth’s greatest joy and source of pride was in her family. She leaves her daughter Susan and her husband Richard Murphy of Brentwood, NH. Her son Robert and his wife Dawn (Kelly) Finacom of Harwich, MA, and her son Thomas and his wife Mary (Desjardins) Finacom of Sutton, MA. Grandchildren include Matthew of Millbury MA, and Patrick and Timothy of Shrewsbury. Alicia of Newmarket NH, Ryan of West Newbury MA, Gerin of Littleton MA, and Megan of Douglas MA. She has 14 great grandchildren, and much-loved nieces and nephews. She was a remarkable woman and will be remembered as a sweet and kind person, who inspired many.
A visiting hour will be held on Wednesday, December 13 from 10:00-11:00 AM in Callahan, Fay & Caswell Life Celebration Home, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester followed by a service at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester.
