Westborough – Barbara Ellen Bacon, 80, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2023. She was born in Rockville Centre, New York, to the late Robert F. and Eileen M. (Burch) Peterman on June 5, 1943.
She grew up in New Hyde Park, New York, until she married and moved to Kimball Road in Westborough, Massachusetts, where she resided for the last 50 years.
A loving and supportive mother, she will be missed by her children Greg R. Bacon (wife Diane) and Keri B. Seery (husband William) of Westborough, and her three grandsons (Taylor Michael Bacon, Maxwell Robert Bacon, and Alexander Rowe Seery). Robert Peterman of New York, her brother, predeceased Barbara earlier this year. She also leaves her youngest brother, Donald Peterman, of Chichester, New Hampshire.
Barbara graduated from SUNY at Oneonta with a degree in Education and was an elementary school teacher in Long Island before moving to Massachusetts to raise her family. She later worked at Algonquin Regional High School as a tutor in the Special Education Department. She worked closely with students who struggled academically with her kind manner and never-ending encouragement.
A two-time breast cancer survivor, she supported the American Cancer Association, The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and several local animal shelters. She had a deep love for animals, particularly cats. She enjoyed antiquing, gardening, visiting the ocean, and spending time with family and friends.
Her family would like to thank the staff at Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center for their care during her last few years, especially her Hospice team, who treated her with love, respect, and dignity and provided her family with comforting support until the end.
A Celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at a later date.
