NORTHBOROUGH – Northborough’s new police chief Brian Griffin was officially sworn in on Jan. 2 at Northborough Free Library.

The ceremony filled the library conference room, and dozens of people listened to the ceremony from the library lobby.

“Thank you for placing trust in me to lead the Northborough Police Department,” Griffin told the crowd.

“I’m fortunate to inherit a department that has always been well-run. A department that has strong policies and procedures in place, and a department that provides its officers with the best equipment,” he later said.

In his inaugural speech, Griffin spent several minutes thanking various individuals in attendance, including friends, colleagues and local government officials. When it came time to thank his family, Griffin became emotional.

“I have to admit, I got a little choked up. I didn’t think that was going to happen, but I think seeing everyone here to support me and the department got me choked up. I have so many friends and family in town – and the residents that I didn’t even know who came out tonight. It’s just a special place, and I’m really looking forward to getting started,” Griffin told the Community Advocate after the ceremony.

Griffin mentioned that he had some new ideas that he will “slowly implement over time,” but he said that one of his primary goals will be highlighting and recognizing Northborough officers and dispatchers, which he called “truly the best.”
