Gretchen C. HoldashShrewsbury – Gretchen Coleman (Gelbach) “GeGe” Holdash, 92, of Shrewsbury MA, passed away in her sleep on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.

Gretchen was born in Ellwood City, PA, raised in Cleveland OH, and graduated from Ohio University. She met the love of her life, Irvin J. Holdash, married him, and moved to Massachusetts to start a family. “Fetchin’ Gretchen” and “Deservin’ Irvin” filled their home with family, friends, love, laughter, player piano gatherings, deck parties, and ill-fated Halloween costumes.

An avid game player, Gretchen ruled the roost of countless Mah Jongg throwdowns and Atari marathons. A former schoolteacher with a sharp wit, Gretchen loved teaching her own children reading, writing, arithmetic, and how to lay down a good punchline. A social butterfly, “GeGe” maintained dear and close friendships throughout her life and held all her friends close to her heart.

Gretchen was predeceased by her husband Irv and her brother Myron. She is survived by her daughters Wendy Lombardi and her husband Raymond of Marlborough MA, Amy Russell and her husband Joseph of Shrewsbury MA, Peggy Holdash and her wife Suzan Cybulski of Millbury MA, Judy Noonan and her husband James of Westborough MA, son Jay Holdash and his wife Cynthia St. Germain of Shrewsbury MA, four grandsons Patrick Russell and his wife Mackenzie, Sean Russell, Ryan Russell, Henry Noonan, and one great-grandson Jackson Russell.

Relative and friends may visit with Gretchen’s family on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 from 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM at the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St. Shrewsbury MA, followed by a funeral Mass celebrating Gretchen’s life at 11:30AM at St. Mary’s Church, 640 Main St. Shrewsbury MA. Gretchen will be laid to rest beside her husband Irv at Mountain View Cemetery, 22 Boylston St, Shrewsbury MA.

In lieu of flowers, fix yourself a one-shot-tall Rum and Diet Coke and share a laugh with family and friends.
