Jane T. LuffSept. 26, 1931 ~ Jan. 4, 2024

Westborough – Jane T. Luff, 92, postponed the end of her full life for a few days into the New Year to allow many whom she cherished a last visit or call, before passing away in the presence of loved ones on January 4, 2024.

Both a Midwesterner and a New Englander, a homebody and a traveler, Jane was a Renaissance woman who adored meeting new people and acquiring all sorts of knowledge. Though her original university degree was in Art History, Jane was also passionate about reading, music, dance, photography, science, psychology, nature, and medicine.  She had fond memories of working on a farm during her college years.

While raising her five children, Jane worked part-time at the local library’s circulation desk. She volunteered with the Girl Scouts, in the church choir, and as a Treasurer for the Boston Ballet Society.

In her forties, with a never-realized desire to become a nurse-midwife, she returned to school and became a nurse practitioner, with a fulfilling career treating first sickle cell anemia patients and later oncology patients. After retirement, Jane attended Life-Long Learning classes in subjects as varied as The History of Railroads and The Symmetry of Nature.

Jane was always politically aware, and ahead of her time in the example she set for her children. While they were young, she hosted many visitors through the Experiment in International Living. Later Jane was active with Women’s Lib, Planned Parenthood, and the League of Women Voters. She was even arrested at a protest during the Gulf War.

At the same time, as a housewife and mother, she spent many hours experimenting with international cuisine, baking, sewing, reading to her children, cooing to babies and animals, visiting shut-ins, and of course, supporting her five treasured children in their own pursuits.

Through all these interests and activities Jane’s intelligence, curiosity, creativity, compassion, courage, and humor shone through.

Jane leaves her beloved partner of many years, Beverly Weeks; her four children, Melanie, Jenny, Sarah, and Peter, and their spouses; Beverly’s children, Daniel and Virginia; Jane’s grandchildren, Emily, Amanda, Daniel, Rosie, Mollie, Michelle, Jack, Lily, and Sam; her greatgrandchildren, Leonard, Abraham, Isaac, Caleb, Hunter, Emma, and Zoey; and many nephews and nieces; all of whom were very dear to her. She was predeceased by her ex-husband and the children’s father, Thomas; her brother, Jack; her twin sister, Mary; her youngest son, Nathaniel; and a granddaughter, Cheryl.

Memorial Service will be held on February 23, 2024 in the W. Newbury Congregational Church, 308 Main Street, W. Newbury, MA 01985. (www.westnewbury.org) at 1:00 PM. Reception will follow.
