NORTHBOROUGH – The annual town election could feature several contested races, according to the list of candidates who have pulled papers.

So far, three people have pulled papers for the two seats up for election on the Select Board, including incumbent Julianne Hirsh, David Cooley and Michael Tietjen. Current Select Board member Kristen Wixted announced on Jan. 22 that she did not intend to seek another term on the board.

Three candidates have also obtained papers for the two Planning Board seats – incumbents Kerri Martinek and Anthony Ziton along with James Howell. The Northborough School Committee may also be a contested race as incumbents Lauren Bailey-Jones and Kelly Guenette and Gigi Lisa Howell have pulled papers for the two seats on the committee.

Howell is also the only person to have obtained papers for the two seats on the Regional School Committee. Fred George has also pulled papers to run for another term as moderator.

As of Jan. 25, the above candidates have not returned their nomination papers to the Town Clerk. The deadline for people to obtain nomination papers is 5 p.m. March 8. Nomination papers must be returned by 5 p.m. March 12.

Northborough’s election is scheduled for May 14 at Melican Middle School.
