NORTHBOROUGH – A man will face several charges, including armed robbery, after he was apprehended following a robbery on Belmont Street.

Around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, Northborough Police responded to an armed robbery at the Amazing Intimate Essential Store, 15 Belmont St. An officer spotted a male matching the suspect’s description walking along Lawrence Street prior to arriving at the scene. According to a press release from the department, officers commanded the suspect to stop, but he fled into the woods.

Northborough, Westborough and Shrewsbury police and the Massachusetts State Police, established a perimeter in the Route 9 and Lawrence Street area. Utilizing drone units from the Northborough and Westborough Police Departments and the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (CEMLEC), officers located the suspect hiding in woods near Walmart.

According to the department, police made attempts to negotiate the suspect’s surrender, but he refused to comply. The Special Tactical Operations Team (STOP) from the Massachusetts State Police and negotiators responded to the scene to continue negotiations.

At approximately 3 a.m., the suspect surrendered without further incident, police said. At the time of his arrest, a replica firearm and a double-edged knife were located in his possession.

He was then transported to the hospital by the Northborough Fire Department for examination. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday, March 8. He will be charged with the following: armed robbery; carrying a dangerous weapon; assault with a dangerous weapon; breach of the peace; disorderly conduct; and resisting arrest.
