Early-spring storm causes school delays, road closures

An early-spring mix of rain, snow and wind is making for a messy morning commute.

Two-hour delays have been announced for Advanced Math & Science Charter in Marlborough; Algonquin Regional in Northborough; Assabet Valley Collaborative; Assabet Valley Regional Vocational in Marlborough; Grafton Public Schools; Hudson Public Schools; Northborough Public Schools; Shrewsbury Public Schools; Southborough Public Schools; St. Bernadette in Northborough; and Westborough Public Schools.

Northborough’s municipal buildings will open at 10 a.m.; trash/recycling collection will take place today, but may be later than normal.

In Marlborough, Republic Services will delay curbside pickup until Friday. Also, a downed telephone pole has closed Bolton Street at Reservoir.

In Southborough, Main Street (Route 30) is closed in both directions at Brigham Street because of downed trees and wires in the roadway. Police advise to seek alternative routes.

About 2,500 National Grid customers in Westborough and Upton experienced a power outage around 10 a.m.; power was restored about one hour later.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory until Friday at 2 a.m., as well as a Wind Advisory until today at 2 p.m. A mix of rain, snow and sleet will hit the region through this afternoon, with highs in the 30s.
