Marlborough – Norval D. Stapelfeld, 78, passed away peacefully in his home on December 15, 2023 from Multiple System Atrophy (MSA), a rare, incurable, neurological disease.

He was born on November 15, 1945 to Walter and Ethel (Belmore) Stapelfeld of Marlboro, Massachusetts.

In 1963, Norv graduated from Marlborough High School, where he was voted “Most likely to succeed”. A captain of his Science team, Norv was known as a quiet mathematical genius who was never too far from his slide rule. He went on to study Engineering at Lowell Technological Institute and graduated with a B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering. Norv enjoyed a successful career as a senior Radio Frequency and System Engineer, where he invented and held patents in circuit designs used in many products including alarms, pet control and special radio devices. Despite his many accomplishments, Norv remained a humble man who rarely spoke of his successes.

Norv was a member of the Fraternal Order of DeMolay, an international organization that promotes core principals of character, love, family, country, courtesy and friendship. As an international HAM radio operator since the age of 8, Norv communicated with an extensive network of HAM operators around the world. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, stamp collecting, watching the Patriots and he loved playing pond hockey throughout his childhood.

Preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ethel, his sister Karen S. Dreyer, brother-in-law Frederic C. Dreyer, Jr and his first wife Sharon (Salome). Norv is survived by his wife, Luda Berezina, who also became his dedicated and loving caregiver over the last two years of his extended illness; son, Douglas and daughter-in-law Dawn; grandchildren Cameron, Alexander, Cassandra, Maxwell, and Elisabeth; son Eric; grandchildren Lillian, Eric Jr, Ava, and Silvie; sister Carla Rock; Luda’s children Andrey, Ivan and Maria; and a multitude of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who will remember him fondly and miss him dearly.
