WESTBOROUGH – The Board of Health has issued the following advisory:
Ticks in the Northeast can carry Powassan virus and other tick-borne illnesses like Lyme disease. Although rare, Powassan cases have increased in recent years and can be fatal.
Know where to expect ticks in the outdoors, use EPA-registered insect repellents and stay on trails and out of brushy areas.
Additionally, check yourself, children and pets for ticks when coming in from the outdoors, treat your yard for ticks using proper products and examine clothes and outdoor gear for unattached ticks.
