WESTBOROUGH – Fales Elementary School closed on Tuesday, May 21, in honor of the school’s longtime counselor, Dana Catarius, who died on Monday, May 13.
Catarius was born and raised in Westborough.
In her weekly update, Principal Maryann Stannard said, “Mrs. Dana Catarius has been a shining light of kindness for our community for 27 years. Dana was a school counselor to her soul, always going above and beyond to support her Fales students, colleagues and families.
“Mrs. Catarius’ smile lit up every room she entered. She was always thinking of others, often making special handmade gifts for her family, colleagues and friends as a way to celebrate her connection with you or to lift your spirits during a challenging time.”
Stannard provided a list of grief resources assembled by the school’s K-6 counselors.
The school was closed so that students, faculty and staff could attend Catarius’ services.
The day will be made up as a half-day for students and staff on Monday, June 17.
