J. Carolyn SkoglundShrewsbury – J. Carolyn (Gullberg) Skoglund, 94, of Shrewsbury, died Thursday May 16, 2024 In UMass Memorial Medical Center-University Campus, peacefully in her sleep.

Carolyn was predeceased by her husband Howard of 49 years, Shrewsbury Police Officer Howard A. Skoglund, in 2003.

She leaves a son Kurt H. Skoglund and his wife Janet of FL, a daughter, Lisa C. Betrovski and her husband Peter of Fl. Three granddaughters, Heidi Skoglund of FL, Katelyn Betrovski of Taunton, Kristen Betrovski of South Yarmouth, and two step-grandsons , David Mandella of Grafton and Richard Mandella and his wife, Amanda of FL; two great-grandchildren, Dillon and Evan of FL. She was predeceased by her sister, Lillian Janson. She also leaves many dear friends, nieces and nephews who have walked through life by her side.

Carolyn was born in Worcester, the daughter of George and Judith (Lundstrom) Gullberg and was raised in Millbury and graduated from Millbury High School. She and Howie made their home on Lake Quinsigamond in Shrewsbury after getting married. Carolyn had enjoyed the beautiful sunsets on the lake for the past 71 years.

Carolyn enjoyed her career as an entertainer. She started as a vocalist with the Big Bands, and then found her calling, singing as she played her Hammond B3 and Keyboards throughout her career.  Her husband Howie, her son Kurt and son in law Peter would help her set up each performance as she traveled throughout New England.

Carolyn and Howie lived in Clearwater Florida for 17 years where they enjoyed everything Florida had to offer, including the fresh grapefruit from their backyard tree.

Carolyn was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star and was proud to be the Grand Organist for the State of Massachusetts. She had many hobbies, first and foremost spending time with her family. She also enjoyed  cross stitch, puzzles, diamond dot painting and she was an avid knitter. She and her knitting circle made many shawls and blankets that they donated to local people in need. Carolyn also belonged to a lovely book club.

She had an incredible relationship with Pastor Eric from Mount Calvary Lutheran Church of Acton.  They would often pray together and share communion in her home.  He was there for her sharing the gospel until the very end.

Carolyn has joined her beloved Howie in heaven and will be missed by her family and friends.

Carolyn’s funeral will be held on Tuesday May 21st at 1030am at Callahan, Fay & Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held on Monday May 20th from 5 to 7pm in the funeral home.
