William T. AmesReadfield, ME – William T. Ames, 95, of the Balsam House in Readfield, ME, and formerly of Westborough, MA, died at home on Saturday, June 1, 2024.

Bill leaves a son and his wife W. Thomas Ames, Jr. and Priscilla M. Ames of Uxbridge, MA; a daughter and her husband, Alison L. Ames and Robert L. Deschamps, Jr. of Augusta, ME; two grandchildren, Brandon and Elizabeth (Liza) Batchelder; three great-grandchildren, Dylan and Johnathan Batchelder and Kyle Bryant; and one great-great-grandchild Brooklyn Batchelder. He was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Joan (Shoppe) Ames and his sister Nancy R. Ames.

He was born in Brewer, Maine, the son of Frederick and Marietta (Pendleton) Ames and graduated from Brewer High School in 1946 and the University of Maine at Orono in 1952. He was employed for 34 years by State Mutual Life Assurance Co. of Worcester, MA in various financial planning positions. Ames lived in Westborough MA for over 40 years where he raised his family and spent many years in various volunteer capacities for the Westborough Council on Aging and the Westborough Health Care Center. He was a member of the Stowell-Parker Post #163 American Legion and Post #9013 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. A World War II veteran, he served in the Japanese Occupation in 1946 and 1947.

He was a former member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregational Society of Westborough, the Hopedale Unitarian Parish and a Past Master of the Morning Star Lodge of Masons of Worcester. A devoted lover of the outdoors, he enjoyed traveling and jogging and he was an avid 4-season walker well into his 90s.

A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Congregational Society of Westborough and will be announced.

Private burial services with military honors will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery in Westborough.

There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Unitarian Universalist Congregational Society of Westborough.
