Shrewsbury/Millbury – Betty J. Taft, 78, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 31, 2024 at Beaumont Northborough.
She leaves her son, Brett (Slidell, LA) and daughter, Kara (Shrewsbury, MA), two grandchildren, Ava and Zachary Taft. Siblings, Warren Baldwin (Myrtle Beach, SC & Tunbridge, VT), Beverly Blomgren (Boylston, MA) and Judy Plante (Mashpee, MA). In addition, she leaves several nephews and nieces.
She is predeceased by her parents, Fred and Florence Baldwin, brothers Wayne and Dave Baldwin, as well as her former husband Frank Taft.
Betty attended both Millbury and Sutton schools, graduating from Sutton High School. Her career started with bookkeeping at New England High Carbon, then Eaton Farm Products. After moving to Shrewsbury, she changed careers and worked in home health, as an aide then as a Supervisor at Family Services of Central Massachusetts until she retired in 2011.
While raising her children, Betty volunteered her time as Cub Scout Den Mother for her son, seamstress for her daughter’s dance recitals as well as numerous activities associated with the First Congregational Church in Bramanville.
Betty enjoyed being creative and was heavily involved in arts and crafts where many of her creations were sold at stores in Sturbridge, MA in the early 80s. More than anything she loved her family, friends and people in general where she always had an open door for those that needed a home cooked meal, a kind heart, and a willing ear.
Family and friends will celebrate Betty’s life by gathering for her graveside service on Wednesday, June 26th at 11 a.m. in New Howard Cemetery, 25 Armsby Road, Sutton MA 01590.
