Aug. 27, 1926 ~ June 8, 2024
Marlborough – Nathalie M. (Martel) Ahearn, 97, of Marlborough and formerly of Hudson, MA., died Saturday, June 8, 2024, at New Horizons, Marlborough, MA, with her family by her side.
She was the daughter of the late Leonidas and Helen (Lapierre) Martel and the wife of the late John E. Ahearn who died in 2004.
She was born in Marlborough on August 27, 1926. She graduated from St Michael’s Academy, Hudson in 1944. She married John Ahearn August 12, 1950, and together they raised 5 wonderful children. Although our parents were Marlborough born and bred, they crossed the town line and settled in Hudson at the corner of Park and Brigham for 60 years. Along with following all her children’s activities our Mom was a gifted seamstress and homemaker, making quilts, knitting baby sweaters, mending any and all clothing that needed help…and cleaning. Boy could she clean!
Once her children were in school, our Mom began her banking career at the Hudson National Bank, first as a part time teller. Then moving up through the ranks to become Personnel Manager of 3 branches of Community National Bank, retiring in 1986. She and Dad did some traveling and then settled on winter trips to Englewood FL which they enjoyed for 15+ years.
After our Dad passed, our Mom kept busy with Bingo, Senior Center activities, playing Bridge and eating out. Mom enjoyed playing bridge so much she gave lesson to an Over 55 group when she was 85! She especially valued spending time with her brother Paul and her sister-in-law, Peggy Ahearn Kokernak. Our Mom’s greatest achievement and source of pride was being Memere to 11 grandchildren and Grandmere to (soon to be) 16 great grands. She loved spending time with each and every one of them.
Nathalie is survived by her daughter, Christine M. Ahearn, of Lowell, her sons, Mark E. Ahearn and his wife Debby, Steve J. Ahearn, Neil M. Ahearn and his wife Joanne, and Jeffrey L Ahearn and his wife Nola, all of Hudson, MA. She is also survived by her brother, Paul Martel of Hudson, her sister-in-law, Margaret Kokernak of Clinton, her grandchildren, Tom Hickey and his wife Alyssa, Christopher Hickey and his wife Melissa, of Nashua NH and Dan Hickey and his wife Carolyn of Lowell, Kelli Jones of Hudson, Elizabeth Schaefer and her husband, Andrew of North Carolina, Dan Ahearn, Craig Ahearn and his wife Nicole and Calvin Ahearn, of Hudson, Michael Ahearn and his wife Megan of Stow, Eric Ahearn and his fiancé Kat and Alex Ahearn of Marlborough. Her legacy continues with her great grands, Molly, Connor, Lana, Ty, Elly, Haidyn, Delia and Hickey, Kennedy and Taylor Jones, Matt, Lily and Ben Schaefer, Charlotte, Chase, and Nola Ahearn as well as her Goddaughter, Ellen Martel of Texas and many nieces and nephews.
Nathalie is predeceased by her sisters and brothers in law, Mary (Satas) Martel, Mary (Ahearn) and Henry Vaillancourt, Betty (Ahearn) and Norman Bonney, Charles and Helen (Morel) Ahearn.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00AM on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at St. Michael Church, 21 Manning St., Hudson, MA 01749. A private burial will be held at a later date.
