Grafton – Joseph J. Sousa, 93, passed away June 30, 2024 at St. Francis Nursing and Rehab in Worcester.
He leaves his wife of 47 years, Elizabeth A. (Duval) Sousa, his daughter Elizabeth Cullina and her husband Jack of North Carolina, his sons David Sousa and his wife Suzanne of Worcester and Philip Sousa and his wife Lori of Auburn, a stepson Mark Brnger of California, 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, his sister Katherine Johnson of Medford,MA and brother Frank Sousa and his wife Susan of Huntington, CT. He was predeceased by his former wife Carmen Sousa, his brothers Manuel and John Sousa, his sisters Mary Van Dueson, Anna Costa, Claire LaGambina, Cecilia Jennings, Loretta Harrington and stepson Michael Brnger.
Joe was born in Somerville, MA son of the late Mary and Manuel Sousa. He served in Korea in the United States Navy for 8 years aboard the USS Worcester. By trade he was a Supervisor for several trucking companies in the area. Joe was a kind and gentle soul who preferred a quiet life close to the family he loved. His family extends thanks to the compassionate staff at St. Francis Nursing and Rehab in Worcester.
All are welcome to gather with Joe’s family and friends Saturday July 6th from 8:30-9:30am at Roney Funeral Home 152 Worcester St. N. Grafton, MA 01536 followed by the celebration of his Funeral Mass at 10:00am at St. Philip’s Church 8 West St. Grafton, MA 01519. He will then be laid to rest with military honors at Hillside Cemetery in Auburn.
