HOPKINTON – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing a traffic pattern change for I-495 southbound mainline traffic to support upcoming I-495 construction scheduled to begin the night of July 24.

This construction will require I-495 SB mainline travel lanes to shift into the median for the duration of the work.

The crossover will begin just north of the MBTA railroad bridge, extend over I-90, and conclude just prior to crossing the Fruit Street overpass of I-495.

During work, all three I-495 SB lanes will be shifted into the median to allow for the demolition of the existing southbound roadway and construction of the future southbound roadway. Temporary ramp connections will be provided to maintain all movements to and from I-495 SB and I-90.

This work is being undertaken as part of the I-495/I-90 Interchange Improvements Project. It is expected that the crossover will be in place through 2025.

Appropriate signage, law enforcement details and messaging will be in place to guide drivers through the work area.

Drivers who are traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed and use caution.

This work is weather permitting and subject to change.
