Hudson – Beloved husband, father, brother and friend, James Gage Billings, 59, of Hudson, MA passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 11th.

James (Jay) was born in Winsted, CT on January 19th, 1965, the son of Barbara and Arthur Eugene Billings. Jay was the youngest of four siblings and spent his childhood and formative years in Norfolk, CT and at his family’s home in the Adirondacks, where he spent summers doing what he loved most: making his family laugh, playing guitar, waterskiing and boating.

He graduated from St. Lawrence University in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Geology and went on to work for the Geologic Services Corporation in Hudson before attending graduate school in Montana, where he earned a Master of Science (M.S.) in Geology in 1991 from the University of Montana, where he and his wife, Mary, often visited Glacier National Park.

After spending over ten years making connections and helping solve problems in various other roles in the industry, Jay started his own company in 2001, Northeast Geoscience Incorporated (NGI), in Clinton, MA. There, he spent over 22 years identifying, developing and permitting public water supplies in New England, New York, Pennsylvania and South Carolina. Over the years at NGI, Jay earned Professional Geologist licenses in the States of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina, and was well respected and much loved by the people he worked with.

Jay is survived by his beloved wife, Mary, his daughters Jenna, Sarah, and Elizabeth, and his son Thomas, all of Hudson and Boston. He is also survived by his brother Stephen Billings of Acton, and sister Ann Colony, of Concord, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased in life by his parents Barbara and Arthur Eugene Billings (1999) and his brother Thomas Billings (2022).

Jay held many roles throughout his life but most important to him was husband and father. He and his wife Mary were married for 32 wonderful years, and he will forever be remembered by his children as loving, patient, and smart – they will treasure all they learned from him about life, love, music, and rocks and minerals.

A funeral service will be celebrated at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA on Saturday, July 20th at 10:00am. Interment will follow at 11:00am in St. Michael Cemetery, 278 Cox Street, Hudson, MA.
