Nov. 25, 1935 ~ July 17, 2024
Marlborough – Camilla D. (Dalton) Short 88 of Marlborough passed away peacefully at her home on July 17, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Boston, the daughter of the late Paul E. and Edith F. (Delany) Dalton and the older sister to David Dalton.
Camilla was raised in Medford and graduated from Matignon High School. She attended Regis College and obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in 1957. She always spoke fondly of her time at both institutions, establishing the foundations of friendships and her religious faith that would last throughout her lifetime.
She worked as a dietician at the former Memorial Hospital in Worcester and would later move into a food service management position with Seilers/Sodexo assigned to Memorial Hospital/UMass Memorial Medical Center. She enjoyed her work, the opportunities it provided to assist others, and the relationships shared with co-workers, including lifelong friendships that would continue beyond her retirement in 2004.
Camilla had the characteristics of what many might consider a “True New Englander.” She possessed a quick sense of humor and admired that trait in others. She enjoyed frequent discussions on politics, closely followed the Red Sox, and was up for a trip to Maine at any opportunity so long as the visit included a stop at York Beach at some point.
From her home in Marlborough where she was a resident for over fifty years, she became the matriarch of her family. She possessed a quiet strength, determination, and commitment to raising her family and she was always the trusted voice within the family whenever guidance or a second perspective was needed.
She is survived by her four children Paul Short and his wife Kristen of Marlborough, Christopher Short of Lexington, Leanne Koponen and her husband Jason of Ludlow, VT, and Gregory Short of Marlborough. As the beloved grandmother of four grandchildren Brian, Kevin, Jason, and Mia, she was affectionately known to many as ‘Nana Shorty.’ Having the opportunity to spend time in retirement with her grandchildren and watch them grow up was one of the great joys of her lifetime and she was so proud of each of them.
The family would like to express appreciation for all the doctors, staff, and caretakers that assisted her through these past several years. She was so appreciative of every act of kindness she received during her care in her later years.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at 10:30 am in St. Anne Parish, 20 Boston Road, Southborough, MA. Burial will follow in the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery, Wilson St., Marlborough.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 22, 2024 from 5-7 pm in the Short & Rowe Funeral Home, 95 W. Main Street, Marlborough, MA.
