Hudson – Joan “Jay” Grathwohl of Hudson, MA formerly of Sudbury, MA, West Dennis, MA, Riverhead, NY and Ft Myers, FL died August 1, 2024 after a short but courageous battle with cancer surrounded by her loved ones. She was pre-deceased by her husband Alan who passed away in 1996 and her sister Phyllis Stearns who passed away in 2010.
She is survived by her daughter Glynnis Walbridge and her husband Doug, her grandson Jonathan, sisters Nancy Rinehart of West Hartford, CT and Lauren Young of Oak Island, NC. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Joan loved to travel visiting China, Australia, Brazil, Africa along with cruises to Alaska, the Mediterranean and Caribbean. She enjoyed playing cards and board games, especially with her grandson. She enjoyed spending time with family with many coming to see her in March when she celebrated her 90th birthday.
Joan was an award winning artist and worked for many years in New England, Long Island NY and Ft Myers, FL. She was a past member of the Sudbury Art Association, Cambridge Art Association, Yarmouth Art Guild and Ft Myers Beach Art Association.
A graveside service will take place on Long Island, NY in September.
Donations in memory of Joan can be made to the Ft Myers Beach Art Association PO Box 2359 Ft Myers Beach, FL 33932 to help fund the new gallery as they lost the original from Hurricane Ian in 2022.
