MARLBOROUGH – The projects to expand the plaza behind City Hall, and upgrade Weed and Main streets, are almost done.

According to City Engineer Thomas DiPersio, the work should be “substantially complete” by Labor Day.

“Right now on Main Street, we are finishing the installation of the new traffic signal equipment, and replacing sidewalks in some areas,” he said. “The Main Street/Bolton Street intersection is being realigned to make it more pedestrian friendly and improve traffic flow. Within a few weeks final paving will be done.”

As for City Hall, the plaza is “beginning to take shape,” he said.

Demolition of the old plaza, which was built in 1978, began in April. The new plaza will feature trees, landscaping, seating and event space.

The scaffolding in front of City Hall is a separate project to repair the clock tower, said DiPersio.
