SHREWSBURY – A new place to fuel your vehicle may be coming to Hartford Turnpike.
The Planning Board on Aug. 1 considered plans to construct a gas station at 193 Hartford Turnpike. The 3.9-acre lot is located on the corner of Lake Street and Hartford Turnpike, directly across from Edgemere Crossing and Market Basket.
The applicant, Marlborough-based Yatco Energy, seeks to build a 7,000-square-foot building that will house a gasoline service station, convenience store and a separate “quick serve” restaurant, according to site plans. The building will have one common entrance and a drive-through window designed for customers to pick up coffee, developers said.
The facility would include six gasoline pumps with two high-speed diesel truck lanes. A separate 4,800-square-foot carwash building on site would be built closer to Lake Street with 13 vacuum spaces and six parking spaces. Yatco Energy plans to destroy the stone-masonry building currently located at the site.
The site would have three entrances for vehicles — two on Route 20, one being entrance only — and one off of Lake Street. The structures are estimated to generate roughly 900 new trips per weekday, according to MDM Transportation Consultants Inc. Project plans show a 25-foot illuminated sign along Hartford Turnpike that would show gas prices.
The car wash is expected to use 7,000 gallons of water per day. Roughly 15 trees and 200 shrubs are expected to be planted, and the developers submitted stormwater-related documents.
Discussion about the project will continue into September.
