WESTBOROUGH – The vision for a “new” Westborough Golf Club building is starting to come into focus.
During its meeting on Thursday, Aug. 22, the Municipal Building Committee saw what the exteriors for a renovation or a rebuild option for the building could look like.
Representatives from Bechtel, Frank, Erickson Architects (BFE) presented updated information on the options chosen by the MBC in early August.
The rebuild option would have two floors with the building smaller than the present structure.
For the rebuild option, the latest renditions show the main entrance to the south; patios at the north and south ends of the building; the pro shop, kitchen and bar on the first floor; and a dining/function area on the second floor, with a deck overlooking the course.

The renovation option would be a hybrid of the original farmhouse building with a wrap-around porch.
For the renovation option, BFE is recommending two sets of stairs from the basement to the first floor; a bar with a concession window; and a separate pro shop.
Committee members also discussed what kind of mechanicals could be installed, given what equipment a potential restaurant could bring; as well as seating and the number of bathrooms.
Work on the cost estimation for the two options will continue into early September.
According to the timeline, a review of the cost estimation, the final exterior renderings, preparation of a final floor plan for renovation and new construction, and documents should be presented the week of Sept. 9-13.
Committee members, including Select Board member Ian Johnson, stressed the desire for the project to have a “zero impact” for taxpayers. Johnson said that some of the costs could be offset by user fees and leasing space to a restaurant.
Town Manager Kristi Williams said the town will soon discuss the project with its bond counsel. She added that the project may be ready for a presentation, but not a vote, at Fall Town Meeting in October.
The MBC will next meet on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 8 a.m.
