Dec. 14, 1948 – Aug. 26, 2024
Grafton – John F. Ponton III, 75, passed away at home following a lengthy illness with his loving family at his side.
He leaves his wife Cecile (Croteau) Ponton whom he married twice on September 19th, in 1970 and again in 2016, his daughters Gina Shulten and Mary Nordstrom, his grandchildren Brianna, Karissa, and Eric Nordstrom, his brother Douglas Ponton and his niece Katelyn Ponton.
John was born December 14, 1948 at the Naval Hospital in Newport, Rhode Island, son of the late Lucy (Shumak) and John F. Ponton, Jr., which was fitting for John as much of his life was devoted to his love of country and military service as he served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and beyond, his honorable discharge as a Sergeant occurring in 1979.
Away from work it was family first for John, he looked forward to days that were like holidays with his children and grandchildren close by. If you knew John you’ll remember his jokes and smile that he had for everyone close to hiim. He was tech savvy but also was quick to point at his computer when problems arose. He also loved to shoot and liked to spend time at the gun range whenever he could. John was also a fiercely loyal fan of the Red Sox and Patriots.
All are welcome to gather with John’s family Saturday August 31st from 10am-12pm at Roney Funeral Home 152 Worcester St. N. Grafton, MA 01536 followed by a prayer service at 12pm in the funeral home. He will then be laid to rest with military honors at Fairview Cemetery in South Grafton.
In lieu of flowers please honor John with a donation to The American Heart Association at www.Heart.org or The Dana Farber Cancer Institute at www.Dana-Farber.org.
