WESTBOROUGH – A commercial real estate company wants to convert the former Sonesta Suites hotel at 25 Connector Road into apartment units.
During the Planning Board public hearing on Tuesday, Aug. 20, Tyler Phelps, senior development manager for PEG Companies, presented details about the site, currently home to Avia Residences on Research.
Phelps said his company has been converting hotels into apartment units across the country; this would be its first project in Massachusetts.

There are seven buildings on the 12-acre site, with a pool and a clubhouse. Should the town approve the special permit, the site would be converted into 109 one- and two-bedroom apartment units.
The project would also include electric vehicle charging stations, and a possible dog park.
PEG Companies will seek waivers for parking, unit size and building height.
Board Chair Hazel Nourse asked whether sidewalks could be added, and about public transportation.
Otherwise, “It will be a nice addition to the community,” she said.
The board voted to continue the public hearing to Tuesday, Sept. 3.
