Marlborough – Margaret “Peggy” M. (Powell) Flood, 81 of Marlborough passed away peacefully on Friday, September 13, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Waltham, MA, growing up in Watertown, the daughter of the late Henry and Mary E. (Reid) Powell. She was predeceased by her 2 brothers, William Powell and Robert Powell.

In 2015, she lost the love of her life, married for 55 years, George B. Flood.

Peggy graduated from Newton Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing in 1974.  She went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Boston University School of Nursing in 1986, after which she earned a master’s degree from UMass School of Nursing in 1992. In 1998, she attended a program at City of Hope Helford Clinical Research Hospital in Durarte, CA to become a pain resource nurse. She was Board-certified in both oncology nursing and pain management through American Nursing Crediting Center (ANCC).

Peggy worked as a nurse for over 40 years at Newton Wellesley Hospital, Leonard Morse Hospital, the VNA and retiring from Emerson Hospital, as an Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist where she helped develop and implement a successful Pain Resource Nurse Program.

Peggy is survived by her 2 sons, Christopher M. Flood of Marlborough, Daniel C. Flood and his wife Anne of South Carolina, her daughter, Kathleen M. DellaPenna and her husband David of Northborough, 8 grandchildren, Jennifer, Kelsey, Nicholas, Danielle, Catherine, Christine, Ryan and Joseph, several nieces and nephews, and her sister, Betty Ann DiMascio of Watertown.

Peggy always spoke highly of her 3 children and even spoke greater about her beloved  grandchildren, never missing a time, even driving 10 hours out of her way to make a visit or getting on a plane to celebrate a special occasion.  Peggy’s friends meant the world to her, many had the pleasure of building memories traveling with her and her beloved husband.  The last 9 years she enjoyed driving herself to Florida, visiting her lifelong friends, Priscilla & Bill, then spending the winter months in the western part to be with her dear elementary school friends, and gained many new friends along the way.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. in the Short & Rowe Funeral Home, 95 W. Main St., Marlborough, MA.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 30, 2024, at 11 a.m. in St. Matthias Church, Hemenway St., Marlborough, MA. Burial will be private at a later date.
