SHREWSBURY – It’s that time of year. The Spirit of Shrewsbury Fall Festival returns to town for the 28th time this September. All Shrewsbury residents are invited – and encouraged – to come to the events and celebrate their town.

Shrewsbury Police Department’s Community Night (Sept. 25)

Though not an official Spirit of Shrewsbury event, the Shrewsbury Police Department’s Community Night has come to mark the start of Spirit of Shrewsbury weekend. The event is scheduled for Sept. 25 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Police Station. There will be live music, food trucks, station tours, face painting, comfort dogs, and a chance to explore police vehicles.

Scarecrows on the Common 

What better way to welcome fall than Scarecrows on the Common? Sponsored by the Shrewsbury Garden Club, residents can expect to see the scarecrows in the center of town. Individuals, groups, businesses and clubs are encouraged to display their scarecrows for all to enjoy.

Saint John’s vs. Shrewsbury Football (Sept. 27)

The most important game on both football programs’ schedules – sometimes called the “Battle of the ’Bury” – is scheduled to start Sept. 27 at 6:30 p.m. The Shrewsbury High School Colonials, who have won the last two rivalry games, will host the Saint John’s Pioneers.

Spirit of Shrewsbury Fall Festival (Sept. 28)

This is the big day. Dozens of community groups will gather on Sept. 28 to celebrate Shrewsbury. Here are some of the day’s events, laid out by time. This year’s Spirit of Shrewsbury is being held at Saint John’s High School.

Shrewsbury’s Got Talent (10 a.m.)
District Art Show & Town Expo (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
Face Painting (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
Shrewsbury Media Connection: Live From St. John’s (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
Shrewsbury High School Robotics Team 467 Demonstrations (1o a.m. to 3 p.m.)
Animal Adventures (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.)
Live National Anthem and Pie-Eating Contest (12 p.m.)
Foam Party (12 p.m. to 2 p.m.)
Spirit of Shrewsbury Dog Show (1 p.m.)
Shrewsbury Sweetheart Pageant (6 p.m.)

Saint John’s vs. Shrewsbury Soccer (Sept. 28)

The town rivals will go head-to-head again on Sept. 28 – this time in soccer. The match is set to begin at Shrewsbury High School at 6 p.m. – head there after the festival!

Spirit of Shrewsbury Parade (Sept. 29)

The Spirit of Shrewsbury Parade returns on Sept. 29, and will stretch from Municipal Drive to Oak Middle School, where food trucks will be ready to serve parade-goers. The action starts at 1 p.m. The parade will feature a float competition, lots of music, dancers, walkers, sport teams, vintage vehicles and more.

The Seniors’ Luncheon will be at 2:30 p.m. at the Senior Center after the parade.
