Yarmouth Port/Northborough – Agnes Fleischer, 91, of Yarmouth Port and Northborough, MA, passed away on October 11, 2024. She was born on February 20, 1933, in North Cambridge, MA. Aggie was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many.
Aggie graduated from Saint John the Evangelist high school of North Cambridge in 1950 and worked at the Riverside Press in Cambridge prior to marriage.
In 1952 Aggie met a charming midwestern sailor named Bob at a Catholic Youth Organization dance at the Charlestown Navy Yard. In 1956 Aggie and Bob “Flash” married and celebrated 67 years together. They eventually settled down in Northborough, MA to raise their four children Karen, Lynn, Stephen and Gary. As with many women of her generation, Aggie was fortunate enough to choose the role of traditional homemaker. Aggie took her role seriously and provided support and comfort for all in her family. Her four children would like to acknowledge with gratitude, respect and love her choice to focus on our family.
Aggie was liked by all. She was grounded, loyal, compassionate and interested in others. Aggie was renowned for her sense of humor which drew people to her in social situations. was quick, often self-deprecating and a pro with double entendre, frankly, she was hilarious. Aggie welcomed many into her home to share holidays, meals and just to visit. Guests always felt like members of the family when they visited.
Aggie was a devout catholic, she was a member of Saint Rose of Lima of Northborough, MA, from 1958 to 1993, and later joined the Saint Pius X Parish of South Yarmouth, MA, from 1993 to 2022. Some of her volunteer efforts included teaching elementary school CCD, participating the St. Rose Altar society, working in the library at the Marion E Zeh elementary school, and collecting and organizing donations for the St. Pius tag sale. Aggie enjoyed painting and decorating her home, reading mystery novels, watching old movies, being a good neighbor and hanging around with her friends, “the girls.”
Agnes is survived by her children Karen McCarthy and her husband Brian of Uxbridge, MA, Lynn Fleischer of Wareham, MA, Stephen Fleischer and his partner David Clancy of Los Angeles, CA, and Gary Fleischer and his wife Erin Carrigan Fleischer of Worcester, grandchildren Christine McCarthy, and Emily Fleischer, Joseph Fleischer, and Robert Fleischer II. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Helen Horgan, siblings William and Mary Horgan, Helen and William Burke, Henry Horgan, Thomas and Sydney Horgan, Leo and Mary Horgan, Leonard and Lorraine Horgan, and Gerald Horgan, and her best friend Dot Hunt of Northborough, MA.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the teams at the Residence at Orchard Grove, Salmon Hospice, and Beaumont of Westboro for their kind, loving, and competent care of Agnes.
