NORTHBOROUGH – The Northborough Police Department has introduced its new comfort dog, Marshall.
He is an English chocolate Labrador from Boonefield Labradors in New Hampshire.
Earlier this week, Northborough third graders voted on his name.
In late September, the Select Board approved ARPA funds to go toward the program, including purchasing the dog, training, supplies and public relations materials. The department shared on Facebook that Marshall will come to Northborough in early November and start his training to become a certified comfort dog.
He will be at the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving to cheer on the runners.
“A comfort dog will not be involved with any sort of enforcement activities,” said Chief Brian Griffin at the Sept. 23 Select Board meeting. “This is an excellent form of community policing … It’s also going to serve a need of helping people during crisis and trauma.”
