Algonquin: 2024 CMADA Class A Boys’ Soccer Champion
MARLBOROUGH – Two Central Mass. soccer teams took home hardware Tuesday night.
The Algonquin Titans – seeded No. 1 in the boys soccer bracket – defeated No. 2 Leominster 2-0 under the lights at Assabet Valley Regional High School to win the CMADA Class A championship. On the same field several hours later, the Westborough Rangers – the top-seeded girls program – held up a CMADA championship plaque of their own after topping No. 3 Wachusett 2-1.

After starting the season 1-2-2, Algonquin became nearly unbeatable down the stretch; the Titans have gone 11-1-1 over their last 13 matches, with the last loss coming over one month ago. Led by captains Max Oelkers, Zachary Ruthfield, and Rowan Millar, Algonquin is 13-2-2 entering the MIAA tournament.
“It’s fantastic for the boys,” said Head Coach Fred Zupicich. “We haven’t won in a while, I heard, and we’re on a roll … This was important – we were ranked No. 13, they were No. 15 [in the state tournament]. The brackets are coming out. We started the season slow … but we’ve put it together.”

Westborough: 2024 CMADA Class A Girls’ Soccer Champion
Westborough pulled ahead of Wachusett after a late-first-period goal by Addison Potenti. Jessica Braden made the game 2-0 shortly after intermission, and though Wachusett got within striking distance later in the match, time ran out on the Mountaineers’ comeback bid. The Rangers – led by Potenti, Molly Courchesne, and Regan Sullivan – are going into MIAA tournament play at 12-3-1.

“I always come back to those captains – the leadership they demonstrate, the commitment they make. They built what they wanted, they’re running with it now, and we just keep refining it. Let’s just see how far it can go. What I said to them just now was, ‘That’s our game.’ I’m really proud of them,” said Head Coach Scott Moroney.
