Dec. 17, 1940 ~ Oct. 29, 2024
Marlborough – Dennis J. Demers, 83 passed away on Tuesday October 29, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at Mass General Brigham Hospital following complications from open heart surgery.
He was born in Marlborough, a lifelong resident, the son of the late Leonidas and Doris (Dugan) Demers. He was raised on his grandparents’ farm, which became his parents’ wholesale greenhouse business, which became the site of his loving family’s home and location of his excavation contracting business Demers Construction, Inc. for which he owned for 53 years, working up to 2 days before his surgery.
Dennis attended Marlboro High School, where he was a standout athlete in both baseball and football. He was a starting guard for the Panthers football team that won its very 1st state Championship in 1957. He was a longtime member of the Marlborough Fish and Game, where he enjoyed playing cribbage in his younger days. He loved to work, as anyone who knew him would say. He truly enjoyed getting up, driving to the job site and digging with his excavator. His company was a member of NFIB and the Marlboro Chamber of Commerce. When he wasn’t on the jobsite, you could find him up at the company garage on his property doing maintenance on his equipment or tinkering with a project or two. He was also a youth baseball and football coach, having won a Senior Babe Ruth Championship. He was a current member of the Marlboro Conservation Commission where he used his 53 years in contracting to help guide the committee’s decisions. In the last few years, he discovered “streaming” where he and the love of his life, his wife Linda would enjoy various shows like “Yellowstone” and “Night Agent” the latter of which they binged all night one night to 4:30 am!
Dennis’s true love was his family, his devoted wife Linda (Adams) Demers of 58 years, his son Paul Demers and wife MaryAnn of Arlington, his daughter Danielle Finlay and her husband Paul of Shrewsbury, his 4 grandchildren David Finlay and his wife Brittany of Lynn, Allison Keegan and her husband Greg of Merrimack NH, Alexandra Parker Demers of Boston and Christopher Parker Demers of Marlborough, 3 great grandsons Quinn, Jason and Colton, a brother Richard Demers and his wife Priscilla of ME, and a sister Kathleen Staniunas and husband Alex of Fl.
