Big turnout in Hudson backs Warren, single-payer health care

HUDSON – More than 11,000 residents – a 76 percent turnout — cast their ballots during the General Election on Tuesday, Nov. 5, according to unofficial results from the Town Clerk’s office.

Residents joined the rest of the state in supporting Elizabeth Warren, who won another term for U.S. Senate, as well as the presidential ticket of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.

On the local front, residents voted for Maria C. Curtatone for Middlesex County Register of Deeds over William “Billy” Tauro.

Most local candidates ran unopposed, including Lori Trahan for U.S. Representative; Mara Dolan for Governor’s Council; Jamie Eldridge for state Senate; Kate Hogan for state Representative; and Michael Sullivan Clerk of Courts.

Ballot questions

Question 1 – to authorize the state auditor to audit the state legislature, and remove some existing regulations regarding the auditing process – residents joined the state in voting yes. The local vote was 7,770 to 3,028.

Question 2 — to repeal the requirement that students must achieve a certain competency level on the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) exam to graduate high school – residents sided with the state in voting yes. The local vote was 6,736 to 4,403.

Question 3 – to provide for unionizing and collective bargaining for transportation network drivers – residents voted yes in a close count (5,398-5,344), which matched the rest of the state.

Question 4 – to regulate access to psychedelic substances – residents joined the rest of the state in voting no. The local vote was 6,142 to 4,835.

Question 5 – to gradually increase the wage of tipped employees until it meets the state minimum wage in 2029 and still permit tipping in addition to the minimum wage – residents voted no, along with the rest of the state. The local vote was 7,508 to 3,457.

Question 6 – a nonbinding question to ask local representatives to vote for legislation to create a single-payer system of universal health care, sponsored by MassCare – voters supported the measure, 6,095 to 4,282.
