Veterans Day events across the region

Ceremonies will be held on Monday, Nov. 11, unless otherwise noted.

GRAFTON

The Veterans Advisory Committee will sponsor a “Salute to Veterans Comedy Night” on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 6 p.m. at the Delisle-Goulet American Legion, 60 Worcester St. Free admission; there will be light refreshments, food and a cash bar.

The annual ceremony will take place at the VFW in South Grafton. Arrive at the post around 10:30 a.m.; the ceremony will begin at 11 a.m.

HUDSON

The day will begin with a light breakfast at AMVETS Post 208 at 9:30 a.m. After breakfast units will assemble, step off at 10 a.m. and march through downtown Hudson to celebrate veterans with the annual parade. The parade will go from AMVETS at 5 South St. to Liberty Park at Wood Square via Main Street. The keynote speaker will be Robert Shure, who recently completed the renovation and re-bronzing of our Veterans Memorial monument, and will speak of its history that dates back to 1927.

Also, Rep. Kate Hogan and Sen. Jamie Eldridge will be guest speakers. The ceremonies will include the Assabet Valley Marine Corps JROTC, as well as Hudson High School Band and the Police Department Honor Guard.

Tri-Salute to Our Troops – Wednesday, Nov. 6, 4 to 7 p.m., American Heritage Museum, 568 Main St., Hudson. Sponsored by the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce, MetroWest Chamber of Commerce and Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce. An opportunity to honor local veterans. MARLBOROUGH

Units for the city’s annual Veterans Day parade will step off at 10 a.m. from the American Legion, followed by a ceremony at the Doughboy Monument at 11 a.m. After the parade, AMVETS Post 1980 will host a celebration with live music and food.

NORTHBOROUGH

The annual Veterans Luncheon will take place on Thursday, Nov. 7, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bistro 119. Sponsored by the Senior Center. Free for veterans; $7 for nonveterans. Tickets required. Veterans are welcome to lunch on New England pot roast with all the fixings. Information: 508-393-5035.

Rolling Rally – The Hometown Heroes Rolling Rally will take place on Sunday, Nov. 10. Starting from Algonquin Regional High School (lineup begins at 11 a.m.), the rally will head through the center of town, and end at the American Legion post.

SHREWSBURY

The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. in front of the World War 1 Memorial at the former Beal School, 1 Maple Ave. A reception will follow for all veterans at the Shrewsbury Public Library at 609 Main St.

SOUTHBOROUGH

The annual observances will take place at 11 a.m. at the All Wars Memorial downtown.

WESTBOROUGH

The Westborough Veterans Advisory Board invites all residents of the town to join them at 10:30 a.m. for a celebration of all our veterans and to acknowledge their commitment, selfless service and contributions to the United States.

The program will begin at 10:30 a.m. in front of the Forbes Municipal Building with a schedule of activities including invocation, wreath laying, patriotic choral presentations, comments from invited guests Congressman Jim McGovern, State Rep. Hanna Kane, and Select Board member Sean Keogh, and the recognition of and presentations to the 2024 Veteran of the Year, James Tepper.

Jim is a Vietnam veteran, a retired Marine Corps lieutenant colonel, and a long-time resident of Westborough. The program will underscore the significance of the Eleventh Hour of the Eleventh Day of the Eleventh Month in the creation Veterans Day.

Earlier in the day, the Advisory Board will be placing wreaths on memorials in Minuteman Park, Veteran’s Park, the rotary, and St Luke’s, Pine Grove and Midland cemeteries. Residents are welcome to observe these brief ceremonies commencing at 9:30 am.
