Holden – Edward Francis King, 86, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2024, at St. Vincent Hospital after a period of failing health.
Edward was born on January 24, 1938, in Worcester, Massachusetts, to the late Edward and Anna R. (Howard) King. He was a proud graduate of Commerce High School and then served in the U.S. Army attaining the rank of Sergeant. Edward went on to earn a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in education from Worcester State University.
Edward married Patricia Turco, in Worcester, MA. Together, they built a beautiful life in Worcester and at their residence on Lake Quinsigamond in Shrewsbury, MA. They also cherished their summers at Wakeda Campground in New Hampshire.
A dedicated educator, Edward spent 38 years teaching elementary education in the Worcester Public Schools. He then worked at the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office for 10 years teaching GED preparation courses. His passion for learning and commitment to his students left a lasting impact on countless lives.
Outside of the classroom, Edward enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He officiated football, baseball, basketball, soccer, and volleyball at the high school and college levels. Edward also cherished his role as a grandfather, showering affection on his seven grandchildren and great-grandson.
Edward is predeceased by his parents, Edward and Anna King, an infant daughter Mary Ellen, and his son, Edward H. King. Edward is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Patricia King of Holden; his children, Thomas King and his wife Danielle of Venice, FL, and Timothy King and his wife Kara of Holden, daughter-n-law Chris King; his siblings, Paul King of Worcester, Judith Grady of Worcester, and Ann Wright of Holden; his grandchildren, Jonathan, Joshua, Bryanna, Gabrielle, Brandon, Julia, and Daniel; and his great-grandson, Weston.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church,114 Princeton Street, Jefferson, MA.
