WESTBOROUGH – Exit 106, which is the I-495 southbound on-ramp from eastbound on the Mass. Pike, will be shifted to its final location, according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
MassDOT said the shift will take place during a temporary alignment overnight on Nov. 15. By the morning of Nov. 16, the the traffic pattern change will be complete. In the event of inclement weather, the ramp will instead be opened the next night.
The existing temporary off-ramp will be closing. The new ramp location is approximately 0.3 miles west of the current temporary ramp, closer to Whitehall Brook.
Appropriate signage, law enforcement details and messaging will be in place to guide drivers through the work area. Drivers traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed and use caution.
As part of the I-495/Mass. Pike project, crews will replace the interchange; eliminate the old toll booth area and weaving areas; improve ramp spacing; acceleration and deceleration lanes; and add an auxiliary lane from I-495 northbound to Route 9.
New bridges will be constructed on I-495 over I-90, on I-495 and I-90 over the MBTA/CSX/Amtrak lines, on I-495 northbound over Flanders Road, and on Fruit Street. The project design is taking place now through December 2024, with project completion scheduled for June 2027.
