Marlborough – Joan B. Lyons 91, of Marlborough passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at Alliance Health at Marie Ester in Marlborough surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Marlborough, the daughter of the late Alfred and Ethel (Cave) Annett.

Joan graduated from Hale High, Stow, MA Class of ‘50 and worked as a Real Estate Broker for many years in the Hudson/ Marlborough area.

Joan is survived by her 4 children, Sandra McCaffrey of Hudson, Peter Lyons of Braintree, Sally Blanchet and her husband Richard of FL, Robin Lyons of Dudley, 13 grandchildren, Dustin, Suzanne, Jonathan, Victoria, Timothy, Heather, Ashley, Christopher, Jessica, Bryan, Benjamin, Kayleigh and Emily, 14 great grandchildren, her sister Barbara Lyons of Groveland and 4 nephews. She also leaves behind her friend of, Kathleen Davidson and her husband Robin.

She was predeceased by her husband of 28 years, Robert Lyons in 1983 and her son Gregory Lyons in 2023. She was also pre-deceased by her long-time partner William Mulcahey in June of 2024.

Joan grew up in Stow, Ma. After graduating high school, she took the train everyday into Boston to work as a receptionist at a bank. She was fiercely independent and traveled all over New England with her friends, having the time of her life. She met her husband Bob in 1954, married in 1955 and raised their five children in Hudson, MA. They enjoyed their family vacations every year in Dennisport. And the one vacation to the Washington, D.C. area, where, yes, Robin was there, even though everyone says she wasn’t!!

After Bob’s death, Joan moved to Marlboro, MA where she spent the rest of her life. She filled her time working as a realtor. Enjoying time spent with family and friends, especially at Christmas. The whole family would gather at her home and enjoy sharing stories, laughter and lots of food. She enjoyed knitting all year long to make sure the presents that she gave to everyone were ready. It was a special thing to have a “Gram original”.

You could always find Joan at her favorite spot, Kennedy’s Pub in Marlborough, MA. She and Bill would sit, have a glass of wine (with ice on the side) and sharing a dinner. She considered Kennedy’s her second family. Joan was a social butterfly and loved talking to everyone around her. Which is no surprise as she was voted “Most Talkative” in her high school class.

When not in Marlboro, her and Bill split their time between Mashpee and Margate, FL. They also spend time at the beach in her condo in Boca Raton, Fl.

For those who knew Joan, know that she was strong-willed, fun-loving, spirited woman who enjoyed life to the fullest. In the last conversations with her children, she let them know that she had the best life because of them.

We would also like to extend a special heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Alliance Health at Marie Ester for the exemplary care of our mother.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 26, from 4-6 pm in the Short & Rowe Funeral Home, 95 W. Main St., Marlborough.

A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, November 27, at 11 am in Brookside Cemetery, 36 Gleasondale Rd., Stow, MA.
