Shrewsbury – Virginia M. (Sableski) Chew, 88, a longtime Shrewsbury resident, passed away Saturday November 23, 2024. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward Chew to whom she was married for 58 years.
Virginia is survived by her two sons, Paul Chew of Shrewsbury and Jim Chew and his wife Lori of Brimfield; treasured grandchildren Joshua Chew of Worcester and Allison Vilandre and her husband Jake of Wales. She was Gigi to her “Greats” Quentin, Lucas and Kahlan and her grandnieces and grandnephews. Gigi always shared a special bond with her sisters’ children, especially her niece Nanci Gregoire who provided her great comfort in her later years.
Virginia was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Drudise) Sableski. She grew up on Vernon Hill with her sister, the late Dorothy Gould. She graduated from Commerce High School in 1954 as a Horace Mann Scholar.
Virginia was employed as a bank teller and later worked in the family business, C&R Tire, but the work Virginia loved most was that of a wife, mother and homemaker. She was an avid reader, loved animals and enjoyed many summers with Ed at their vacation home in York, ME.
Virginia’s last months were spent under the compassionate care of the staff at the Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Her family is forever grateful for the love and laughter Gigi experienced there.
Virginia’s wishes were that services and burial at Mountain View Cemetery in Shrewsbury be held privately with the assistance of the Britton Funeral Home of Shrewsbury.
