MARLBOROUGH – The Marlborough Downtown Village Association has returned.
Local merchants decided to revive the business group after several years of dormancy.
“I love meeting with my neighboring businesses,” said Alyson Cox, owner of the Word on the Street bookstore. “It’s nice to have that support.”
“I’m excited for all the new things coming to town,” said Alexis Dascoli, owner of Vibes Candles.
Last year, Dascoli ran Vibes from one of the pop-up shops at the Weed Street parking lot.
Earlier this year, she opened at the Main Street space formerly occupied by Word on the Street.
Another former pop-up, Rocks and Roots, recently opened in a space owned by Minuteman Press.
Owner Malikkah Gamble said she worked with Minuteman owner Darlene Welch, as well as the Marlborough Economic Development Corp., to acquire the space.
“I was saying, ‘Yes, give me that space,’ ” said Gamble, whose shop specializes in plants and vintage records. “It was a very generous offer.”
Holiday Stroll
The association’s first big effort will be the Holiday Stroll on Sunday, Dec. 8, from noon to 6 p.m.
According to Lindsey Jaworek of the Marlborough Economic Development Corp., which is one of the members of the village association, the event will feature a synthetic ice-skating rink with skate rentals; a trackless train giving rides up and down Main Street; an appearance by the Grinch; face painting; a s’mores station; carolers; a festival of trees; vendors; and the tree lighting ceremony at Union Common with Santa.
The Marlborough High School Choir and Orchestra will perform at First Church.
The Downtown Village Association is accepting sponsorships for the event and donations for the festival of trees.
Jaworek said that several businesses are working on the event, including Lost Shoe, Word on the Street, Minuteman Press, Vin Bin, Zarape, Vibes Candles, Flying Dreams, BB Realty, Chamber of Commerce, Magic & Color Co., EKG Networking, Main Street Café and Rowe Law Office.
