Northborough – Mary Margaret Broderick, a lifelong resident of Northborough, passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2024; she was 92 years old.
Mary was born in Northborough, the second youngest of seven children to Christopher C. and Delia M. (Mitchell) Joyce and a graduate of Northborough High School.
For over twenty years Mary was employed as a nursing assistant at the former Thornton Nursing Home in Northborough. After retirement Mary worked several more years for Super 8 Motel’s Marlborough location.
Mary had a lifelong passion for sports. Even in her later years she enjoyed challenging others to Bocci at the American Legion. She looked forward to walking the Northborough Trails and attending the many Northborough Community Meal suppers where she would continue to make friends. Mary also enjoyed the variety of social events held, especially music time, while catching up with friends at the activity center of Village Drive.
Above all, Mary looked cherished making memories with her niece Diane Szkutak, Diane’s husband Robert and great-nephews Christopher and Michael Szkutak. Mary also leaves her sister, Beverly Griem and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Mary Joyce and Patricia Broderick; three brothers, Christopher Joyce, William Joyce, Robert Joyce and two sisters Dorothy Casten and Shirley Murphy.
Calling hours will be held 4-6pm on Thursday, December 5th, at Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am on Friday, December 6th, at Saint Rose of Lima Parish, 244 W. Main Street, Northborough. Burial will follow in Howard Street Cemetery, Northborough.
In lieu of flowers Mary’s family respectfully request memorial contributions to be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
