Webster – Joseph “Joe” A. Rielly 79 of Webster and formerly of Framingham and Marlborough died on Sunday, December 1, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Joe was born in Natick, the son of the late John F. Rielly and Georgetta (Peloquin) Rielly.
He graduated from Marlborough High School. Joe served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War, then served in the Massachusetts Army National Guard earning the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Joe was a Police Officer for the City of Marlborough for over 22 years retiring in 1991.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Eileen (Vayda) Rielly of Webster, his 2 sons Jay Rielly of Marlborough, Shawn Linden and his wife Brandi of Sturbridge, his daughter Renee Pickering and her husband Scott of Webster, 5 grandchildren Trevor Rielly, Sophia Linden, Brandon Tarves and his wife Krysta, Alex Pickering, Seth Pickering, his brother John Rielly of Uxbridge, and several nieces and nephews.
Joe was predeceased by his sister, Joanne Bourdeau.
Joe was a Life Member of the AMVETS Post 1980 in Marlborough and the VFW of Ashland.
Joe was a proud Irish man who served his country with much pride and honor. Family came first in Joe’s life. He enjoyed participating in the local pitch and cribbage tournaments. He was a dedicated fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. In his younger days he enjoyed spontaneous rides including Bike Week in Daytona and road trips to the Poconos and Tennessee with his wife. His motto was “Fill the tank, sit back and crack the throttle.”
Calling Hours will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2024 from 2-5 pm in the Short & Rowe Funeral Home, 95 W. Main St., Marlborough, MA.
A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held on Monday, December 9, 2024 at 1:30 in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne MA.
