San Diego, Calif. – Madeleine H. Rochefort, 93, of San Diego, California, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, November 22, 2024.
Born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, Madeleine was the daughter of the late Stanley and Hortense Barrette. She was predeceased by her husband, J. Roland Rochefort, and her siblings, Muriel Jannell – Rinaldi and Charles Joseph Barrette. She is survived by her six children: Celeste Kramer, Cheryl Cosman, Cathleen VanWert, Carol McNiff, John Rochefort (Massachusetts), and Christine Rochefort (San Diego). She was also blessed with seven grandchildren, two of whom predeceased her, and seven great-grandchildren.
Madeleine lived in several places over the years, including Westborough, Massachusetts, before moving to a small, close-knit community of Rancho Bernardo in San Diego in 1989. She worked as an executive secretary and retired after many years of dedicated service.
Known as “Maddie” to friends, she was admired for her grace, generosity, and kind nature. A health-conscious, avid walker, whether a stroll on the beach, walking the neighborhood, or traveling with family and friends she loved spending time outdoors. She enjoyed many crafts, especially painting landscapes and creating greeting cards. She cherished time with friends and family, always ready for a game of cards or Rummikub, and enjoyed Taco Tuesdays with her best friend and weekly fish dinners with her daughter, Christine. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, leaving a lasting impact with her kindness, grace, and warmth.
A Church service will be held on December 16, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at San Rafael Catholic Church, 17252 Bernardo Center Dr., San Diego, CA 92128 followed by a catered luncheon. A private Interment will follow on December 17, 2024 at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the National Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
