WESTBOROUGH — Algonquin had recently defeated Westborough in football and basketball.
And just when it seemed like the Titans would top the Rangers in hockey too, Westborough rallied from behind. Despite being down at several points throughout the game, the Rangers continually fought back, ultimately topping their longtime rivals in overtime.
“This is what they’ve prepared the last couple weeks for. The team’s worked their tails off to be prepared for situations like that,” said Westborough Head Coach Dave Belbin. “I’m really happy that they get rewarded for doing the right thing.”
Westborough captain Daniel Velez got the winning score.
“We’re fighters. The first period, we were down 1-0. We fought back. Down 2-1 — we get back. Down 3-2 — we get back. And then we end up getting it in the end in overtime. I feel like that just shows that no matter what we face, we’re able to move forward,” he said.
With the 4-3 win, Westborough moves to the Boroughs Cup championship.
