Shrewsbury/Paxton – Charles J. Allen II, 78, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the warmth and love of his family, on Monday, December 16, 2024.
Born in Attleboro, Charles was the son of the late Charles J. and Bernice (Allard) Allen. His formative years were spent in Europe, a unique experience that shaped his worldly perspective. He later returned to the United States, graduating from Lexington High School before earning his bachelor’s degree in political science from Merrimack College.
Charles served with honor in the Army National Guard. His career in telecommunications was distinguished and impactful. He began at AT&T, rising through the ranks, and served as the Telecommunications Director for the White House during the Ford, Carter and Reagan Administrations. He later worked as a Telecommunications Coordinator for Ericsson Communications Co. in Northborough. Charles was also a member of Kiwanis and was involved in raising funds for the establishment of the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Institute at Tufts Medical Center in Boston.
Beyond his professional achievements, Charles was a man of boundless creativity and hands-on expertise. He was passionate about building and home improvement projects, pouring his energy and talent into designing and renovating his own Shrewsbury home and assisting with countless other ventures. Following his retirement, Charles found fulfillment in a new role as a teacher’s aide at Shrewsbury High School, where he shared his wisdom and kindness with the next generation. Above all, Charles’ greatest pride and joy was his family, to whom he was endlessly devoted.
Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Janet (Babineau) Allen; his sons, Charles J. Allen III and his wife, Kristen, of Franklin, and Jeffrey D. Allen and his wife, Marie, of Coventry, RI; his daughter, Linda Marie Allen of Paxton; his cherished grandchildren, Charles J. Allen, Jr., Natasha E. Allen, Devin W. Allen, David Allen, Andrew Allen, Ashlee Allen, and Elena Allen; and his precious great-grandchildren, Mia, Bella, and Charles J. Allen V.
Family and friends are invited to honor Charles’ life during a memorial calling hour from 10:00-11:00am, followed by a memorial service at 11:00am, on Friday, December 27, 2024 at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. Interment will be private.
