Marlborough – William “Red” J. Tripp, 98, of Marlborough passed away at his home on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.

Red was born on October 2, 1926 in Rochester, NH the son of the late John and Catherine (McIver) Tripp who raised their family in Marlborough.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army in WWII in Japan during the Occupation.

He graduated from Marlborough High School, Class of ’45. He held many jobs during his lifetime including oil delivery driver for his best friend Louis Seymour and ultimately retired from Digital Corporation. He was a member of the First Church of Marlborough Congregational for 93 years where he continued to be very active until his death including serving as a past Deacon and Senior Fellowship Director. He was also very involved with the Marlborough Boy’s & Girl’s Club organization for many years serving as a past president and member of the board of directors.

Red was predeceased by his wife of 42 years Marian A. (Cox) Tripp (2020) and two sons, James Tripp (2015) and Roger Tripp (1993). He was also predeceased by his first wife of 24 years, Sally (Monroe) Tripp (2013), and 6 brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his 3 daughters Catherine Tripp of Northborough, Karen Mauro and her husband Charles of Yarmouth, Kathleen Terra and her husband Victor of Marlborough, his son, William Tripp of Marlborough, James’s life partner Tish Bouvier of Marlborough and Roger’s wife Colleen O’Connor of Mystic CT as well as a stepdaughter, 10 grandchildren including Shawn & Christopher Tripp, Sarah, Patrick, Kelly and Christopher Mauro, Max and Jake Terra, Michael Tripp and Kaitlyn Sieniawski as well as many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.

Red was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, holding season tickets for many years. Red and Loius spent time together in the midget racing car organization and he enjoyed collecting antique trains. Red also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, taking long drives, including one across the country and many exploring New England during all four seasons.

A Funeral Service for Red will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024 in the First Church in Marlborough Congregational, 37 High St., Marlborough, MA at 11 am. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Wilson St., Marlborough with Military Honors.

An hour of Visitation will be held prior at 10 am also in the Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the First Church in Marlborough Congregational UCC, 37 High St, Marlborough.
