GRAFTON – The Fire Department was kept busy before and during the first snow of 2025.
On the morning of Saturday, Jan. 11, fire crews from all three stations responded to early morning calls. The first was a three-car accident with a tractor-trailer on the Mass Pike mile marker 100 east. The second was a two-car accident at the 98-mile market west. There were minor injuries.
During these calls, headquarters was called to Koopman’s on Route 140 for a water flow activation in the lumberyard.
On the afternoon of Friday, Jan. 10, Brush 2 and Engine 3 along, with Brush 1 from Headquarters, responded to 357 Providence Road for a brush fire. The cause of the fire was disposal of coal and ash from a wood stove/ fireplace, according to the Fire Department.
The department wants to remind residents about proper collection and disposal of such materials. Make sure that they are in a steel bucket, and never store these materials in your home, garage or basement. Also, before disposing wet down the contents of the bucket before emptying. Try not to dispose in an area of brush, grass or leaves.
