Marlborough – Evelyn M. Tanner 97 of Marlborough, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 9th 2025 at St. Patrick’s Manor, Framingham, MA, surrounded by her loving family.
Evelyn was born in Marlborough, the daughter of the late Frank and Daisy (Costellow) Symonds.
She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Charles F. Tanner in 2012.
Evelyn graduated from Marlborough High School. As a young adult, Evelyn donated her time teaching Sunday school at First Baptist Church in Marlborough. She worked as an administrative assistant for New England Telephone for many years before retiring in 1990.
Evelyn is survived by her 4 children, Elizabeth Guglielmello and her husband Wil of N. Grafton, Steven Tanner of VA, Lisa Tanner of Hudson, James Tanner and his wife Shelley of Framingham, 5 grandchildren, Madeline Tanner, Nicole and Alexandra Tanner of VA, Jenna Gould and her husband David of Auburn, Dayna Casey and her husband Ryan of West Brookfield and 2 great grandchildren, Ryan and Remington.
She was predeceased by her son John Tanner in 2013, a sister Dorothy “Jerry” Johnson, a brother Richard Symonds and her beloved cat, Max.
Evelyn enjoyed spending her retirement at Lake Winnipesaukee, NH in the summer and her Winters in Fort Myers, FL. She was a passionate painter in both oil and acrylics focusing on barns and New Hampshire scenery. She loved to dance and had a quick wit always sharing her latest jokes. Her family was the most important part of her life, spending countless Sunday dinners around the kitchen table telling jokes, laughing and enjoying the quality time spent together.
She will be remembered as always having a warm smile and infectious laugh by all who knew her.
Her family would like to thank all of the staff at St. Patrick’s Manor for their care and compassion for Evelyn in the last few years of her life.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 18th at 11am in the Short & Rowe Funeral Home, 95 W. Main Street, Marlborough, MA.
An hour of visitation will be held at 10 a.m. prior to her service also at the funeral home.
Following cremation, a private burial will be held at a later date.
