With the first snowstorm, a reminder about winter parking bans

REGION – The region is under a Winter Storm Warning until 7 a.m. on Monday. Current forecasts call for 6 to 10 inches of snow.

The region’s first snowstorm of the year is leading the following communities to remind residents about winter parking bans:

Grafton – When a winter storm if forecast, the town asks to avoid parking in public places and alongside the road. Per town bylaw, any vehicle that interferes with the
removal or plowing of snow may be ticketed and/or towed at the owner’s expense.

Hudson – Per town bylaw, there is no parking on town streets from Nov. 15 through April 1 between the hours of midnight and 7 a.m. All-night parking is prohibited in the Municipal Parking Lots on South Street between the hours of 2 and 7 a.m. from Nov. 15 to April 1 except those areas designated and posted as permitting overnight parking until 7 a.m.

Vehicles parked illegally or abandoned on roads are subject to towing at the owner’s expense as well as a $10 ticket by the police.

Marlborough – The city’s overnight parking ban goes into effect every year on Dec. 1 and will continue through March 15 the following year.  During that period, on-street parking is prohibited from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night. Vehicles violating the ban are subject to issuance of a parking ticket. Additionally, vehicles that interfere with snow or ice removal operations are subject to towing and storage at the owner’s expense.

Pursuant to the authority granted by the City Code and the Rules and Regulations of the Traffic Commission, the police chief grants the following exceptions to the overnight parking ban, subject to the conditions indicated below.

A. EXCEPTIONS GRANTED FOR:

High Street; Brown Street; Brook Street; Emmett Street (from South Street westerly to dead end); Ringold Street

B. CONDITIONS: The granted exceptions shall not apply:

When a snow or ice storm has been predicted;

When a snow or ice storm is actually occurring;

During post-storm plowing or clearing operations by the DPW.

Northborough – Dec. 1 through March 31. No person shall park their vehicle on either side of any street in town between midnight and 8 a.m. A $50 fine will be imposed. Also, any vehicle left on a public street or way that interferes with the removal and/or plowing of snow and/or ice may be towed and stored at the vehicle owner’s expense.

Shrewsbury – The town has a year-round, overnight parking ban. No vehicle may be parked on any street for a period of more than one hour, between the hours of 1 and 5 a.m., except in the case of an emergency. If you have such an emergency, you must call the Police Department prior to leaving your car on the street.

Southborough – Dec. 1 through March 15. No parking from midnight to 6 a.m. on any public way regardless of the weather. Street parking is also not allowed at any time of day or night during snow or ice events. Vehicles violating those rules could be towed at owner’s expense.

Westborough – Dec. 1 to April 1. No on-street parking between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m.
