Painting Fun for Tweens

Saturday, July 25, 10 to 11 a.m., Westborough Public Library, 55 W. Main St. Put your creative skills to the test at this brand-new art program for tweens in grades four, five or six. Join a teen painting expert for a lesson that will involve painting on upcycled CDs. The library will provide all the supplies that you need. Registration is required.

Community Seed Swap

Saturday, Jan. 25, 11 a.m. to noon, Marlborough Public Library, 35 W. Main St. Diversify your seed collection and learn all about seeds, from planting to harvest. Hosted by Kate Donovan of Blackstone Valley Veggie Gardens.

The Romans Are Coming – Saturday, Jan. 25, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., American Heritage Museum, 568 Main St., Hudson. Legion III Cyrenaica is a Roman living history organization with membership throughout the New England region. The group researches, reconstructs and presents this historical legion as it may have appeared in Egypt and later in Syria during the Roman Empire (covering 40-400 AD/CE). The legion functioned primarily as a military police, based outside Alexandria and manning road stations and watchtowers along the trade roads in the Koptos region.

While the main focus of the group is in the arms, armor and military functions of the Roman Legion, the group also features non-citizen auxiliary and non-military / civilian aspects.

Owl Prowl

The Giaquinto Wildlife Rehabilitation Center plans a series of seasonal bird walks, starting with its first winter Family Owl Prowl on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 5 p.m. at Ghiloni Park in Marlborough (meet at the basketball courts). Note — this event has been postponed to Saturday, Feb. 22.

The event will begin with an educational discussion, for all ages, and attendees will have the chance to learn all about native owls and practice some owl calls. You will have the opportunity to meet the educational ambassador barn owl, Bella, and learn what makes owls so mysterious.

After a short discussion, participants will head out into the woods, on one of the paved trails, on a night nature walk and listen for the elusive, nocturnal, apex predators of the wild calling to each other in the night.

All ages are welcome; the event is weather permitting.

ChiliFest

Saturday, Jan. 25, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., St. Luke Parish Hall, 70 W. Main St., Westborough. A fundraiser for the Appalachia Service Project. Tickets — $10 adults, $5 children, $25 max per family. Dinner will include chili, cornbread, hot dogs and drinks.

Free Throw Championship

Sunday, Jan. 26, Special Olympics gym, 512 Forest St., Marlborough. Sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council #81. Player registration at 1:30 p.m.; competition from 2 to 3 p.m.; awards at 3:30 p.m. Open to all boys and girls in the Marlborough-Hudson area aged 9-14 (as of Jan. 1, 2025). Proof of age required. A division will be available for special athletes. The top three winners in each age group will advance to the district championship and state finals.

Holocaust Remembrance Day

Monday, Jan. 27, noon, American Heritage Museum, Hudson. During the event, the museum will unveil a film shown from the inside a WWII railcar from the Deutsche Reichsbahn. RSVP information here.
